Privacy

Geographido is a set of geography games at geographido.com. This page says what we keep about you, who can see it, and how to take it with you or delete it. Last updated 24 October 2026.

Playing without an account

Every game works without signing in. Your browser gets a random player number in a cookie, and the results of games you finish are stored against that number, so the daily games know what you have played. Settings, personal records and finished games are also kept in your browser’s own storage. A finished daily game takes a place on that day’s leaderboard under a numbered name, like GeoAnon7. Only one guest per network counts on each game’s board a day, so for that day we keep a scrambled code worked out from your internet address (never the address itself), and delete it when the day’s boards are final. We don’t use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and we don’t sell data.

Signing in

Sign-in is run by Amazon Cognito, part of Amazon Web Services. If you continue with Google, Google tells Cognito your email address and that it is verified. If you continue with email, Cognito keeps your email address to send you one-time codes. Your email address stays with Cognito: our own database never stores it, or any password or sign-in token.

Our database keeps Cognito’s identifier for your account, the username and country you choose, whether your username shows on the global leaderboards, your signed-in sessions (stored only as scrambled codes, each expiring 400 days after you last visit signed in), and your game results. For each daily game that includes the score and how long it took, measured by our server from when the first question appeared to when your finished game arrived.

What other players see

On the daily leaderboards: your username, country, score, time and place. As a guest, only your score, time and place show, under that day’s GeoAnon name, and a player who has finished that day’s game can open your finished game from there (each round and your answers). If you turn off “Show my username on the global leaderboards”, you still keep your place there, shown as a hidden player. In a league: its members see your username, country, daily results and medals. A player who has finished a day’s game can open your finished game of that day from the global leaderboards and your leagues’ boards (each round and your answers), unless you turn that off on the account page. In a party game: the other players see the name and country you enter for that room. Rooms are deleted within a day. Your email address is never shown.

Reports

If you send a report with a game’s Report button, we keep what you chose and typed, with the game, the page address, your screen size and browser, the words and picture names on the game’s screen, and any recent page errors. It isn’t linked to your player number or account. Reports are emailed to the developer and deleted from our database after a year.

Services that help run the games

How long we keep things

Account data stays until you delete it. Server logs are short-lived. Database backups are kept for up to six months, so something you delete can remain in a backup until it expires.

Your choices

Signed in, the account page lets you download everything we hold about you, erase your game history, change your username or country, hide your username from the global leaderboards, or delete your account completely, including your Cognito sign-in. You can leave any league from its page. As a guest, clearing this site’s data in your browser removes what is kept there.

Contact

Questions about your data, or a request you can’t make from the account page: privacy@geographido.com.

Children

Accounts are for people 13 and older. Anyone can play without an account.
